UPDATE - TCWS Boil Water Advisory Rescinded
Published on Dec 31, 2020 16:46
Good evening,
The Boil Water Advisory issued on December 14, 2020 has been rescinded effective December 31, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. and the Thornhill community water is again safe to consume.
Regional District staff have disinfected the main domestic water storage facilities and flushed the distribution systems. Repeat water quality laboratory testing now indicates no presence of Total Coliform Bacteria.
To further improve water quality in your homes and businesses, the Regional District recommends customers flush their water pipes and faucets, including removing, and cleaning faucet screens if possible. Begin with the faucet that is highest up in your home or building and then open all other faucets (hot and cold), including outside taps for 5 minutes, one at a time moving from the highest floor to the lowest.
Customers with refrigerators that have a water dispenser/ice maker connected to their water line should throw out the ice plus the next batch, clean any ice bins, change any filters, and flush the water dispenser following the directions in the owner’s manual.
Water softeners may need to run through a regeneration cycle and should follow the directions in the owner’s manual.
Customers with a water treatment unit should change the filter cartridges and follow the directions in the unit’s owner’s manual.
Coffee makers, Brita filters, bathroom Water Piks and any other appliances that use water, are not directly connected to a water line and may have been used during the water advisory, should be cleaned, and flushed.
Some individuals may be unsure about flushing and cleaning their water pipes and appliances. Please assist friends and family members if required or contact a trained professional such as a plumber.
The Regional District will continue to monitor the water quality in the system weekly and is still investigating the cause of this recent incident with Northern Health and their Consultants.
Please share this information with your community members.
The Regional District apologizes for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and support while staff worked to resolve this issue for you.
