Fire Protection

There are fire protected areas throughout the Regional District  with fire protection provided by:

Contracted Services with the District of New Hazelton and the Village of Hazelton for  the Rural Hazelton Area, including South Hazelton and Two Mile,

Dease Lake Fire Department;

Thornhill Fire Department:
            Station 1 - Thornhill,
            Station 2 - Lakelse Lake, and
            Station 3 - Gitaus.

Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department also has Mutual Aid Agreements with neighboring municipal Fire Departments including the City of Terrace and the District of Kitimat.

Overview

Working With You to Keep Your Community Safe.

Thornhill Fire Department responds to both emergency and non-emergency incidents that includes more than fires. We respond to medical emergencies, teach fire prevention and fire safety courses.  Our ongoing public awareness and outreach promoting fire safety and education have reduced the number of dangerous fires overall.

The Thornhill Fire Department has one fire hall / training site located in Thornhill and two satellite fire halls located at Lakelse Lake and Gitaus.

Fleet and Capacity
  • 3 Fire Engines for fire suppression, tools, water and crew,
  • 3 Water Tenders to move water to the fire as needed,
  • 1 Mobile Command Support Truck used in larger or longer  fire events
    • This unit acts as the command center with power generation, office work stations, communications, washroom and REHAB
  • 1 Ladder Truck that serves Thornhill and City of Terrace when needed at most commercial building fires
  • 3 Duty Vehicles
Firefighting Positions

Thornhill Fire Department is managed by two full time Chief positions and one part time Administration position.

Volunteer members are always welcome. 
  
Drop by anytime on weekdays between 9am and 4pm., talk with the daytime staff to tour the hall, learn more and pick up an application package.

Dease Lake Fire Department

The Dease Lake Fire Department has two fire trucks and a committed group of members that meet and train on a regular basis.
