Bought a new toaster but the old one still works? Clearing out your bookshelves? If you want to get rid of an item and it's clean, functional, and in relatively good condition, you can drop it off at the Share Shed for someone else to enjoy!
The Share Shed is a new pilot program at the Thornhill Transfer Station; drop off or take an item at no cost. The ultimate goal of the program is to keep reusable items out of the landfill.
The Share Shed opens on Saturday, June 6, and will operate only Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from 9am to 5pm.
Please note, in order to operate safely, there are limits and restrictions as to what can be dropped at the Share Shed.
Examples of accepted items:
- Small household furniture
- Small electrical appliances in working condition
- Kitchen and household items
- Home and garden tools
- Sporting and recreation equipment
- Arts and crafts supplies
- Home décor
- Office and school supplies
- Board games and puzzles
- Books & toys
- Bicycles
Examples of unaccepted items:
- Damaged, soiled, stained, ripped, broken, rusty, or incomplete items
- Garbage or recyclables
- Items with safety standards, eg. PPE, car seats, helmets
- Broken, malfunctioning, or soiled items
- Hazardous/toxic material
- Upholstered items like mattresses, futons, hide-away couches, upholstered furniture
- Electronics/media
- Clothing or textiles
- Stuffed toys
- Bedding

Please be aware of the Share Shed terms of use, again, to ensure the safety of the attendants and the public:
- Items may be refused or removed at attendant’s discretion
- RDKS does not guarantee condition of items, and accepts no liability for injury or damages
- Mass purging of the Share Shed by the public is prohibited
- Scavenging anywhere else in facility is not permitted
- Aggressive behavior or foul language will not be tolerated
- Items can be dropped off only when the Share Shed is open
- No loitering at the Share Shed
