The Economic Development Commission is made up of the Regional Board Directors for the six electoral areas, as well as Stewart, Hazelton and New Hazelton.

Through the continuous research and the development and promotion of economic development activities, the Commission will support the economic viability of the region through targeted strategies. The Commission’s current strategic areas are:

5. Tourism Marketing

Community Investment Portals
Business Façade Improvement Program

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine's Business Façade Improvement Grant Program is currently open to all interested applicants in Electoral Areas A through F. 

With funding from Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Façade Improvement Program, business owners can apply to the Regional District for a grant of up to $5,000 (50% of project costs) to improve the appearance of the outside of their buildings.

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Exterior lighting
  • Exterior architectural features
  • Exterior surfaces and details (decorative details, moldings, trims etc.)
  • Windows
  • New siding
  • Façade painting
  • Entrances and doorways
  • Awnings
  • Signage
  • Wayfinding signage (some restrictions apply)
  • Accessibility improvements

Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until June 30, 2024, or until funding is exhausted, at the discretion of the Economic Development Commission.

Please note that all accepted projects must be completed with relevant reporting submitted by year-end (December 2024).
