DOWNGRADED: North Coast - Flood Warning

The BC River Forecast Centre has downgraded yesterday's Flood Warning to a Flood Watch as of 12:00pm on Friday, November 8, 2024.

Please still exercise caution and be prepared for changing conditions.

A joint Hazard Notice has been issued by the Kitsumkalum Band, Kitselas First Nation, and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine due to the BC River Forecast Centre’s Flood Warning Advisory issued on 07 November 2024 at 1000h.

Rivers have been rising rapidly since Wednesday. Current flow conditions around Kitimat, Terrace, Gitlaxt’aamiks (New Aiyansh) and surrounding areas have been elevated, with flows in the 2-year to 10-year flow range. Flooding and stream erosion are expected at these flow levels. People in the area are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for changing conditions.

Rivers are anticipated to rise in response to rainfall, with rises on late Wednesday through late Thursday and into Friday. Flooding and stream erosion are possible at these flow levels.

People in the North Coast area are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for changing conditions.
