Visitors to the Thornhill Transfer Station may have noticed some mowing activity near the Scale House this week. More for function than appearance, the vegetation on the old landfill site needs to be removed to protect the 'cap' sealing off the site. Crews will also be working on removing invasive plants.
Once mowing is finished, a mixture of soil and organic material will be added then seeded with local grasses and wildflowers. This helps to manage any landfill gas that may be escaping from the capped portion of the landfill.
The organics will come from the Compost Facility at Forceman Ridge.
